Dear Son 2

Dear Son,

There will come a time in your life when you will look back at a single day and smile...not because it was perfect, but because it was full of love. For me, that day was Valentine’s Day.

It began in the soft glow of morning, different from all others. I woke beside the most beautiful woman on earth, and for a moment, the world seemed still...like it was giving us permission to simply exist in that sweetness.

The plans we had carefully arranged shifted along the way but it didn’t matter. What mattered was that we were together.

Sometimes the sweetest moments are not in the grand gestures we plan, but in the quiet adjustments we make for each other.

We laughed. We talked. We shared small glances that said more than words ever could. And in those simple exchanges, I realized something important.

The sweetest moments in love are not the ones we script...they are the ones we adjust to, together.

We talked about small things and big dreams. We shared silence that felt peaceful, not heavy. We held hands in a way that said, I am here, and I choose you. It was in those quiet exchanges that I learned one of the most important lessons about having a girlfriend...about loving someone deeply.

Love is not just about flowers, gifts, or having perfect plans. Love is about communication.

Having a girlfriend, my son, is not simply about saying “I love you.” It is about listening. It is about expressing how you feel without fear. It is about understanding that silence can build walls, but honest conversation builds bridges.

When two people communicate openly...about their joy, their fears, their expectations...they grow closer. When they include each other in their thoughts, their decisions, and even their uncertainties, the bond becomes stronger.

That Valentine’s Day taught me that love thrives where communication lives. You must speak kindly. You must listen patiently. You must allow her to be heard, and you must not be afraid to be vulnerable yourself. Real strength in love is not dominance...it is understanding.

If you ever choose to love someone, remember this: include her in your world. Let her know your plans. Ask about hers. Share your thoughts. Hear her heart. Because love is not two people standing apart it is two people walking together.

That day, I learned that sweetness is not found in perfection. It is found in effort, in honesty, and in choosing each other again and again through conversation.

You must speak your heart clearly. You must listen with patience. You must include her in your world...your plans, your struggles, your excitement, your doubts. When you communicate, you prevent small misunderstandings from becoming large distances. When you listen, you make her feel valued. And when you allow her voice to matter, love becomes partnership.

A girlfriend is not someone you simply have. She is someone you grow with. And growth only happens where words are shared honestly and kindly.

That Valentine’s Day was sweet not because it was flawless, but because it reminded me that love is teamwork. It is choosing openness over ego. It is choosing conversation over cold silence.

And from that sweetness, these words were born:

Love is not roses fading by night,

Nor candles that flicker and lose their light.

It is words spoken gently when tempers rise,

It is truth reflected in honest eyes.

It is “tell me what you’re feeling”

Instead of turning away.

It is “help me understand you”

At the close of every day.

Love is laughter when plans rearrange,

It bends, it listens, it learns to change.

It stands in storms, it does not run,

It says, “Your heart and mine are one.”

Speak with kindness, hear with care,

Let no heavy silence linger there.

For love that’s nurtured through open doors

Will grow far stronger than before.

My son, if you ever choose to love someone, remember this: sweetness comes from understanding, and understanding comes from communication. Include her. Listen to her. Speak honestly. And never let pride silence your heart.

That is how love stays beautiful.

Goodnight.
