Valentine's Day 💘

The sun was setting, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple. It should have been a beautiful sight, but today, it felt hollow. He sat by the window, eyes lost in the distance, heart weighed down by emotions he couldn’t suppress anymore. His fingers drummed lightly on the table, a nervous rhythm matching the restlessness in his soul.

He had always been a man who believed in staying strong, no matter what. Society had taught him well—"A man doesn’t show weakness; a man faces his struggles in silence." And for the most part, he had followed that unwritten rule. But not today. Not anymore.

He took a deep breath and reached for his pen, his heart guiding his hand.

*"I miss you, my love.

I miss you more than I have words to express. I’ve been struggling for days, suppressing this feeling, convincing myself that I had to be strong. But strength, I’m learning, isn’t always about hiding what you feel. Sometimes it’s about admitting that you need someone. And today, I need you."*

The words flowed effortlessly, as if they had been waiting for this very moment. His hand trembled slightly, but he pressed on, determined to release the storm that had been raging inside him.

*"I’ve been afraid. Afraid of what lies ahead, of an uncertain future that feels like a vast, dark ocean. I have dreams, yes. Plans that I hope will unfold into something beautiful. But there are days when doubt creeps in, whispering fears I can’t shake. What if I fail? What if I’m not enough? What if the light I’ve always followed dims before I reach the end of the tunnel?

It’s strange how fear can be so loud, so convincing. It tells you that you’re alone. That no one understands. That no one can save you from the shadows. But then, there’s you.

You, who have always been my anchor in the storm. You, whose smile is the only light I need to find my way home."*

He paused, staring at the paper. Memories flooded his mind—moments filled with laughter and warmth. Her voice echoing in his ears, her touch like a balm for his restless soul. She had always believed in him, even when he doubted himself. She saw something in him that he couldn’t always see.

He closed his eyes, imagining her presence. For a moment, it felt real—almost tangible.

*"I’ve tried to be the man who has it all figured out, but today, I need to tell you the truth. I’m scared. Scared of failing. Scared of losing the light I’ve found in you.

But you’ve taught me that vulnerability isn’t weakness. It’s courage. And so here I am, baring my heart in these words, hoping you understand.

On this day, I couldn’t let the sun set without telling you what’s in my heart. Because tomorrow is unwritten, and I want you to know how much you mean to me before it begins again."*

He read the letter once more, the weight on his chest slowly lifting. The future was still a vast, unwritten space, filled with uncertainties. But somehow, writing this made it feel a little less frightening.

He folded the letter, tucking it into his journal. Perhaps one day he would share it. Perhaps he would never need to—because the words, though written for someone else, had also been for him. A reminder that it was okay to feel lost sometimes. That darkness wasn’t the end, only a pause before the light returned.

And in that pause, there was always hope.
